The Director of Public Relations role is a leadership position, developing and overseeing a high performance team. They are a strategic thinker with a big picture mindset who executes the vision of the department. The Director of Public Relations will manage a wide-range of competitive people and projects from strategic story development to high impact media relations results and strategic planning. Storytelling is at the very heart of our work. The director is a dynamic storyteller who ensures emotionally engaging stories align with strategy and client goals. They lead projects and a team, driving success efficiency, and accuracy within the public relations department. The director will run the PR department day-to-day operations, with the main areas of responsibility including managing team members, assigning work, department quality control, strategy, and resource management.
What you will be responsible for:
Media Leadership & PR Strategy
- Lead team efforts to secure high-impact national media coverage aligned with client and agency goals.
- Maintain and build strong media relationships while staying ahead of industry trends.
- Develop and implement long and short term PR strategies to enhance our clients visibility and reputation
- Translate client objectives into actionable strategies and measurable media results.
Team & Department Management
- Set strategic direction for account success, balancing long-term strategies with quick activation tactics.
- Establish priorities, assign work, monitor progress, and ensure timely, high-quality execution.
- Coach, mentor, and develop staff, including onboarding, career growth, and fostering development and creativity within the team
- Foster collaboration across teams, including production professionals (videographers, editors, producers, and writers).
Operational & Client Excellence
- Oversee department efficiency, resource allocation, and budget models.
- Provide strategic consultation to both clients and internal teams.
- Implement quality standards for public relations performance.
- Regularly report department performance metrics to executive leadership.
Company Culture & Leadership
- Collaborate with executive leadership to uphold and promote company culture and vision.
- Lead by example in media engagement, strategic decision-making, and industry expertise.
Previous agency experience is highly preferred. Newsroom experience is helpful.
- Minimum of 10 years experience in public relations or a related field. Preferred candidates will have experience in healthcare communications.
- Experience and proven skills in managing people and projects.
- Bachelors or Master's degree in communications, public relations, broadcast journalism or equivalent work experience.
- Experience with PR software required
- Experience with MAC computers and software is preferred.

MediaSource is based in Columbus, Ohio, and this hybrid role requires candidates to be located in the Central Ohio area. The position offers a mix of remote work and in-person collaboration at our workplace, with on-site participation required at least 2-3 times per week.
