Job Summary:
This position provides creative and editorial support for UAB Callahan Eye communications initiatives and carries out communications objectives and plans under the guidance of the UAB Callahan Eye communications and marketing manager and in compliance with established brand standards. Primary responsibilities include news and feature writing, digital content creation and dissemination, social media content creation, and advancement of communication activities.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
* Develops stories that highlight faculty and staff accomplishments, clinical advancements, scientific discoveries, patient testimonies, etc.
* Serves as a communication contact for academic faculty and staff, working with them to develop stories that enhance reputation
* Assists in executing communication strategies and programs to influence employee engagement, increase employee knowledge and share key organizational messages
* Oversees the social media strategy, creating and disseminating content, and tracking performance analytics
* Follows established messaging strategy to share content with targeted audiences via various digital media channels, including email and social media
* Collects, organizes, and programs web content for both external and internal audiences across all UAB Callahan Eye web sites according to established brand standards and style guidelines
* Manages content creation and distribution through established communication channels, ensuring that communication context is clear and aligned with core values
* Employs communications tools (Joomla, SalesForce) to edit/update web content, develop newsletters, etc. Evaluates metrics across all communication platforms, brainstorming on ways to improve communication and presenting information to stakeholders to demonstrate engagement
* Coordinates Callahan's presence at sponsorship and partner events, as well as internal employee events, ensuring brand representation and engagement align with organizational goals
QualificationsBachelor's degree in Communications, English, Graphic Design, Journalism, or a related field required and (1) year of related experience preferred. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:* Strong organization, communication, and interpersonal skills
* Demonstrated skills in writing and editing
* Confidence in working with diverse stakeholder groups, including researchers, clinicians, alumni, patients, and senior leaders
* Demonstrated ability to handling confidential materials
* Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment is essential
* Experience working in website platforms (Joomla, SalesForce, WordPress)
* Extensive knowledge of social media and emerging communication platforms
* Experience with web design and graphic design a plus
* Detail oriented with excellent time management skills
* Organizational skills
